The Apocalypse
Version 1.00 Beta
User Documentation
HISTORY: Earth has been invaded by what Governments have been hiding for
years, the presence of a hostile & intelligent life form outside of our
known Universe. Fortunately the US Government has been training an
elite group of soldiers to one-day, in the event of total invasion,
disperse throughout the US, recruiting civilians for troops, and rid our
country of the alien invaders. You are one such soldier who will start
the game in a random city, equipped with 100 raw recruits (troops) and 100
experienced recruits (commandos.) Food has become the one true commodity
and all player moves are measured against their food storage. At some
point, once you've gained a preset number of points, the President
will contact you through a messenger-agent with the location of the
Invader's HQ in the United States. You will only be told once the
President feels you are powerful enough to destroy the final stronghold
of the Invaders. To fail surely means repurcusions that will annihilate
the United States, creating man's one greatest fear:
The Apocalypse.
OBJECT OF THE GAME: As the leader of one of the many groups of soldiers
trying to eliminate the Invaders, you must first locate the Alien Commun-
nication Post in each city. All cities are the equivalent of a 10 X 10
grid. Once that is accomplished, you have cut-off their communications
and are then able to attack the 4 security bases, located in each of the
four corners of the city. Be careful though, if you don't have enough
troops and commandos to attack, the Invaders will simply wipe out your
assault team! Once you own the communication post and all four bases,
the city is then controlled by you and you should reinforce each base
with your own troops to fend off the Invaders' counter-attacks while you
move on to the next city. You gain points by winning battles, taking
command posts and controlling cities. After you have taken control of a
MAJORITY of the cities, The President will send an agent with the city-
location of the Invaders HQ and you then have to muster your forces and
assault the target city in an all-or nothing battle.
HOW TO PLAY:
- The Invaders: These vile creations are the whole reason you've been
activated in the capacity you are trained. Any encounter must conclude
with death to all of the Aliens you discover. Luckily they are no
stronger than humans, but the critical difference is they have infil-
trated almost every major US city and are NOT interested in living in
peace!
- Obtaining food: You will receive a predetermined amount of food each
day when you log-on this great BBS. You can also acquire food through
encounters when you send your forces on hunts, searches, or traveling
between cities. When you run out of food, you are finished playing for
the day and must call back tomorrow.
- Obtaining more troops: You can find troops by recruiting the many
civilians you will encounter by searching for the communication post,
traveling between cities, and/or looking for more fuel to get you to the
next city.
- Obtaining more commandos: Every battle you win, there will be a certain
number of the troops you sent to fight that will be promoted to commando
status. It is said a commando is worth 5 regular troops.
Also, because troops are apt to desert when sent on a hunt or search,
you must send 1 commando per 10 troops to "guide" them to success.
- Owning a city: Once you have found the communications post and taken
all four bases, the city is in your control. However, this is not a
permanent situation so you must equip each base with your own forces.
If the Invaders take the city or you die, all items stored in a city are
lost, so BE CAREFUL.
- The Renegades: The enemy includes more than just the Invaders. A
group of "enterprising" Humans have formed a group known as the Renegades.
They are just as deadly as the Aliens!
- Weapons: Weapons have the effect of increasing troops strength (after
all it's said an armed-Army is stronger than an unarmed-Army!)
- Alien Wonder Drug: The Alien force has also introduced Humans to the
"Alien Wonder Drug." This has the effect of cloning a certain number of
your forces which translates to FREE TROOPS.
- You get 2 spies per day to either send to gather troops or collect the
food/fuel you have stored in controlled cities. Remember, if you lose control
of the city, you will NOT be able to access the cache or troops in bases!
The "=" command gains access to the spy menu!
That's it. Any more information you can find out while in the game (the
? command gives an outline of valid commands.)
Thanks playing and be sure to comment to your SysOp what you think of
the game!
COMMON ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS:
- For every action you take, one point of food is deducted. Therefore if your
forces return with one point of food on a hunt or search 1 - 1 = 0 and your food
points will remain unchanged.
- If you attack the base of a city that is controlled by another player, the
city will become controlled by "No one!"
- The Invaders can (and will) attack bases of controlled cities, so be sure to
reinforce your controlled bases!
